AT HOOVES & PAWS RESCUE, INC.WE ARE ASKING THE PUBLIC FOR THEIR HELP
We are a horse and large breed dog rescue located in Glenwood, IA. At Hooves & Paws Rescue, Inc. we rehabilitate abused, starved, neglected or unwanted horses and large breed dogs. If possible, following rehabilitation, we place such animals in loving homes. If for any reason an animal cannot be placed, the animal can live its life out at our rescue facility in a safe, loving environment in Glenwood, Iowa. On April 2, 2007 we rescued (3) abused and neglected Percheron Horses at a Council Bluffs, IA residence and brought them to our rescue facility. The people that these horses were taken from were on probation for animal cruelty. The horses had not had medical care of any type it appears for a very long time. Their hooves are very overgrown, cracked and in terrible shape. The mama mare is 250 – 350 lbs underweight. We had our Vet out to examine the horses. The horses were given their shots, however, since these horses were not touched and loved as they should have been they are very hard to handle and still need more medical care once they settle in and understand that they will never again suffer, be hungry, alone or abused. That is the promise we make to each animal that we rescue. We are asking the public to help us at this time with the medical and feed bills for these wonderful horses. Keeping in mind these horses can weigh up to 2,600 lbs the feed bills alone are going to be extremely high. Anyone who can donate hay would also be greatly appreciated as they will go through at least (6) bales a day, which is (42) bales a week. At $4.00 a bale this comes out to be $168.00 a week for their hay alone. Their grain, supplements, de-wormer, Vet Care & Hoof care will make these cost per week exceed $400.00. These cost plus our other (9) rescues will put us at approximately $900.00 a week. That being said, we really could use everyone’s help at this time. If you can give $10.00, $20.00 or $30.00 a month or more this will help us reach our goals of giving all of our rescues a chance for a new life. Please visit our web site at www.hoovespaws.org to see the work we do and all of our special rescued horses and large breed dogs. Also, pictures are posted of the abuse & neglect these poor horses have suffered. Donations can be made directly through our web site. Or, they can be mailed to the address listed above. The actual rescue was taped by Action 3 News out of Omaha, NE. and was featured on the news April 2, 2007. Thank you in advance for any help you can give our rescues at this time!
