One Act Plays hit High School

written by Patrcik Kalhorn

Seven weeks ago, Russell Crouch, the American and World History teacher at Glenwood Community High School, began directing three one-act plays performed by students from 9th to 12th grade. The rehearsals were held at the West Elementary Auditorium, which is where the plays were executed on March 30th and 31st at 7:30 p.m., and the first of April at 2:00 p.m. The first play was titled "The Day Grandma Got Mad and Squashed the Tomatoes", written by Bradley Hayward. This was the story of a young man named Erik (Dain Whitacre) brought over to his girlfriend Allison's (Jessica Isadore) grandmother's house, where he quickly learns he is way over his head. Her family, Grandma (Mary Slater), and sisters, Lynette (Brooke Bird) and Penelope (Ali Bowden), have decided that they do not like the boyfriend very much, and try as hard as they can to make the experience painful for him.

The second performance was of "Bert's Golf Pant's", the story of a middle aged man who's ways have always been set in stone, and decides that he is going to wear Golf Pants to his daughters wedding. Bert's (Caleb Borden) wife, Marion (Leora Darrah), is not exactly thrilled about this choice in style, and feebly attempts to get her husband to change. Thrown in with these two, are the brothers of Bert's Daughter's Wedding, Greg (Eric Woodrow) and Butch (Patrick Kalhorn).

The last play was of "Jack VS Jill" written by Dustin Blakeman, was a hilarious court room case of Jill Dumpty-Hill (Sarah Karjala) suing her husband Jack Hill (Greg Lilly) for physical and mental trauma after being pushed down a hill. However, the case goes an odd direction since Jack has received mental damage from tumbling down the hill. The Defense (TJ Finn) and the Prosecution (Shawnta McNeel) call forth several whiteness into court, including Mother Goose (Carmen Finken) and Frank Noodlemyer (Austin Hembry). The Judge (Cassandra White), quickly grows agitated with the Plaintive Defendant and takes out some her anger on the Bailiff (Skyler Schmitt). The happenings are described as non-existant by a Mysterious Man in a Suit (Erik Fritz), and the courtroom muscle (Joel Weis) ends up dragging off either the defendant or the plaintive  depending on the findings of the jury (the audience).

All three were hard work for everyone involved, and they thank the members of the community who came to support them.
