2008 Davies Amphitheater Show Descriptions
Glenwood Community Band (Sunday, June 8, August
24) The
Glenwood Community Band has been in existence for 2 years, and is comprised of
approximately 40 musicians, ranging in age from 16 to 70. Directed by Pete Jacobus and Gordon Woodrow, the band’s programs feature
that old time 'Concert in the Park' atmosphere, complete with an announcer, and
a broad selection of music that is sure to entertain everyone.
Melody Wranglers (Sunday, June 15) The Melody Wranglers kick it
up with old style country, western swing and honky-tonk music. They tip their
hats to such country music greats as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Bob Wills,
Buck Owens, Dolly Parton and Merle Haggard. Each of the Wranglers has over 30
years of professional music experience and all are former members of the
legendary Nebraska country-swing band, Sour Mash. Wrangler members have
recorded on numerous albums and CDs, performed on radio and TV and have won
awards at music festivals across the country. With tight vocal harmonies and
hot instrumental picking, if it calls for country, these folks can handle it.
Southwest Iowa Men’s
Chorus (Sunday, June 22) The Southwest Iowa Men’s Chorus, sponsored by Iowa Western Community
College, is in its tenth year of performing.
The group is under the direction of Joel Johnston, conductor, presenter,
choreographer and adjudicator with 23 years of experience in music
education. The chorus consists of
approximately 35 men from the southwest Iowa area, including 7 from Glenwood. The group will be a featured performer at the
Nebraska Choral Directors convention in July.
Urban Delight & The Horns of Plenty
(Saturday, June 28) Featuring an eight piece combo and Camille Metoyer-Moten
on vocals, this outstanding variety show will present music by Michael Buble, Chicago, Meatloaf, Etta James, Bette Midler,
Santana, Patsy Cline, ABBA, the Four Seasons, Frank Sinatra, the Four Tops,
Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Shania Twain, Kool and
the Gang and more.
Glory Road (Sunday,
June 29) This
Gospel Quartet from Council Bluffs was formed in 1998. Glory Road performs across the Midwest with
their music ministry and southern gospel style of music.
Richie Lee and the Fabulous 50’s (Thursday,
July 3) Welcome back to the Davies Amphitheater stage, Richie
Lee and the Fabulous 50’s. They let us
know that The Music Didn’t Die.
Performing since the age of 11, Richie is best known for his tribute to
Buddy Holly. Eighteen year-old Richie
has performed on stage with the Crickets (Buddy Holly’s band), Bobby Vee, the Drifters, the Shirelles,
and many of the other early Rock’n Roll bands. If you have ever tapped your feet to the
music of Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens, Roy
Orbison, Elvis, the Everly Brothers and many others,

Avi8ors (Saturday, July 12) Celebrate the music of the Greatest
Generation. With a bit of a “USO Show”
feel, the singers perform in authentic WWII uniforms and stay as true to the
period as possible. Their repertoire
includes 75 WWII era numbers including some silly songs, Broadway tunes,
popular tunes, World War II songs, crooner numbers, religious and patriotic

Pam and the Pearls (Sunday, July 13) Seven of Omaha's most gifted and acclaimed
musicians/performers will present a variety of jazz, contemporary, pop/rock,

USAF Brass in Blue (Sunday, July 20) This is
the USAF newest performing group.
Composed of eleven brass players, one percussionist and one vocalist, Brass In Blue inspires the hearts and
minds of military and civilian audiences with their music. The group’s repertoire includes classical,
marches, jazz, original compositions and patriotic favorites.
Kid Fiddlers (Friday, July 25) The
Jackson Family Band is from Salt Lake City.
The five children range in age from 5 – 17 perform across the United
States and Europe. Amazing vocally,

Lonny Lynn Orchestra (Saturday, July 26) Entertaining
since 1983, this 11 piece ballroom dance band specializes in recreating the
hits of the great swing band era of the 30’s and 40’s with some Country and

Toasted Ponies (Sunday, July 27) If you
like bluegrass, new acoustic music and great original songs, you’ll love the
Toasted Ponies. The members of this
exciting quartet are all great singers and their music features wonderful
harmonies.
USAF Night Wing (Saturday, August 2) Night Wing is the country/rock showcase group of
the USAF Heartland of America. Their
music stretches from the hottest new country and alternative charts to
rock-n-roll classics
Generations of Rock and Roll (Saturday, August 9)
This multi-generational 50’s & 60’s rock and roll show has 10
outstanding vocalists, tight harmonies, a powerful horn section and outstanding
instrumentalists. These R&R pioneers
perform the music of Elvis, the Everly Brothers, the

Lightning Bugs (Friday, August 15) This swinging
jazz trio from Lincoln, Nebraska features jazz and pop standards from the 30’s
and 40’s when the big bands were blowing and the dance floors were crowded.

USAF Noteables
(Saturday, August 23) The Noteables are the Jazz Band component of the USAF Heartland
of America Band. The most frequently
requested ensemble, the Noteables have performed all
over the world.
