Location:

Location is one of our major assets. Glenwood is located just south of a national crossroads where Interstate 29 meets Interstate 80.

U.S. Highway 34, which runs through Glenwood, is the major thoroughfare across Southern Iowa.

U.S. Highway 275 north of Glenwood is a well known scenic route going north through the hills to Omaha-Council Bluffs.

Schools:

Glenwood School District with an enrollment of 1800, includes two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. New additions to the elementary and high schools help the system keep pace with an ever increasing enrollment.

Believing the axiom "You're never too old to learn," the school sponsors and coordinates adult courses with topics ranging from computers to square dancing.

Many community colleges and universities located in the Omaha-metro area make higher education easily obtainable to the full or part-time student.

Glenwood cares about education!

Homecoming Coronation

Homecoming:

Come home to Glenwood! Glenwood High School Homecoming held each Fall is a memorable experience . . . The business community comes to a standstill on Friday afternoon as people line the square for the Homecoming Parade. Then it's off to class reunions and down to the football field to cheer on Glenwood's "Fighting Rams."

Class reunions, a parade, the football game, royal coronation, and an outcast dance for non-graduates add up to three days of festivities for everyone.

Glenwood's Heritage:

Migrating to Utah in 1846, the Mormons were the first white settlers. The Mormons found Pottawattamie and Omaha Indians who had moved here from the Great Lakes in 1833. The Mormons called their settlement Rushville. Though most of the Mormon group went on to Utah, few remained and made Rushville their permanent home. The remaining settlers named the town Coonville, after a local doctor. In 1851, the name was changed when the town incorporated.
