Davies Amphitheater

712-527-3334

The Davies Amphitheater, situated in the beautiful Glenwood Lake Park, offers quality, family entertainment throughout the summer months. The facility which won the 1981 Iowa Architectural Award for design was left to the people of Glenwood in the estate of the late Mr. Charlie Davies. In addition to the generosity of Mr. Davies, the amphitheater is supported through the Raymond Thomas Trust, local sponsors and family memberships.

The Davies Amphitheater seats 750 people. It is equipped with dressing rooms, public rest rooms, concession stand and is handicapped accessible. The facility also has a complete sound system and full theatrical lighting.

Although the amphitheater management schedules regular evenings of entertainment, the facility is also available for rent by the public. Many area churches have taken advantage of this lovely setting and have held morning services and weddings there.

Currently the Davies Amphitheater charges a nominal fee of $3 for adults and $2 for students and children (age 5 and up) for most of its shows. Gold Cards (family memberships) are also available. Several shows each season are free admission.

The Glenwood Optimist Club

An Optimist is a person who is interested in serving their community, a person who particularly enjoys working with and for young people. We work for young people either in "hands-on" programs, or by setting a good example and being a positive influence on their lives.

Optimist International is one of the world's largest and most active service-club organizations. There are over 145,000 members in over 4,000 Optimist Clubs worldwide. Each year, Optimist Clubs conduct over 65,000 service projects that reach over 6 million young people.

The Glenwood Optimist Club is comprised of people who care enough to volunteer some of their time and talent to help others and to make a difference.

Visit one of our weekly meetings as our guest! We almost always have an interesting speaker or a new project to plan (and we always have fun). We would enjoy sharing your camaraderie in an "optimistic" atmosphere.

We meet every Monday at 7PM. at the Oasis Restaurant in downtown Glenwood.

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself-

  • To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
  • To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
  • To forget the mistakes of the past, and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
  • To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself, that you have no time to criticize others.
  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
