Hooves & Paws Rescue, Inc

written by Regan Hager

Since January 2006, Genea Stoops and her husband Bill, have been running Hooves and Paws Rescue , Inc. where abused and mistreated horses and large breed dogs are offered "A Place to Heal." But now, with five dogs and three horses, the Stoops are looking to expand their organization..

We would like to buy the land to the east of us," said Stoops. "We already have the plans drawn up for that space, but we need corporate sponsorship or private donations to be able to expand."

Expanding their land means a lot to the animals as well as Stoops."There would be another training ring and a separate place for quarantine that is not so close to the other horses," said Stoops. "Being able to buy the property and having corporate sponsorship give us more opportunity to be out in the community more."According to Stoops, she would be able to give seminars on horse care or walk a person new to horses through all the aspects of owning a horse.

It would also give her an opportunity to make a difference with teen and children. "Kids or teens that are thinking of buying a horse or large breed dog could come here and learn what it takes to own them," said Stoops. Currently, Hooves and Paws Rescue is open to visitors Sunday 12-2 if the weather permits and a call is made in advance. To contact the Stoops e-mail them at Legs1212@aol.com, visit their website www.hoovespaws.org, or call them at 712-527-3721 or 712-527-9212.
