Dollars for Scholars Benefit
a Success
written by Patrick Kalhorn
On Saturday, March 16th, the Glenwood area Dollars for Scholars held it’s soon to be Annual Benefit Lunch in the High School Cafeteria.
The participants in the fundraiser each bought a table to eat at and decorate, and invited seven guests to dine with them.
There were thirteen tables purchased for $80 each about ten dollars per person. Members of the National Honor Society served the meal.
The members of NHS as well as some Dollars for Scholars representatives waited on all of the tables.
Dollars for Scholars is a nationwide organization that began in Glenwood in 1999. That first year the fund was only able to give a single scholarship. Because of it’s growing community support, this year 21 scholarships will be given to graduating Glenwood Seniors.
Nancy Wright, a member of the Dollars for Scholars board, said they hope that this can be run again next spring, to continue until they reach their goal of a scholarship for every student who graduates from Glenwood.
